John D. Cavallaro. Mr. Cavallaro's practice spans a broad range of real estate, land use and municipal-oriented matters. These include planning and zoning applications and related litigation. As a former government attorney, defending and challenging the actions of local government form the basis of many litigation matters handled by Mr. Cavallaro. He has extensive experience in representing sellers, purchasers, and lenders in transactional matters as well. Mr. Cavallaro brings to the firm significant experience as a litigator, land use lawyer, and municipal counsel. Mr. Cavallaro served as Corporation Counsel to the City of Mount Vernon, New York where he provided municipal boards and officials with legal counsel on a wide variety of matters including major land use applications and litigation, telecommunications issues, legislative drafting, municipal contracts, among many others. In private practice, John appears before many municipal boards to obtain changes of zone, subdivision approvals, special permits and site plan approvals for commercial and residential properties. His experience includes the state environmental quality review act (SEQRA) process and reviewing environmental impacts. Mr. Cavallaro also serves as the Village Attorney for the Village of Tuckahoe, New York. Prior to his service in the public sector, Mr. Cavallaro was an attorney with a major national law firm where his practice was again concentrated in litigation. John is certified by the Westchester Municipal Planning Federation. He was also appointed and serves as a member of the City of Mount Vernon Zoning Board of Appeals and Bronx River Watershed Coalition. Mr. Cavallaro has also lectured for the New York State Bar Association on the administration and enforcement of land use controls. Mr. Cavallaro is licensed and admitted to practice law in the State of New York. He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He is a graduate of St. John's University of School of Law, where he was the recipient of the Joseph T. Tinnelly Award. He earned his B.A. at St. John's University, where he graduated magna cum laude, and was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society.
